Weight loss isn’t always as simple as eating less and moving more. Although plenty of people put in real effort with diet and exercise, they still don’t see the results they’re after, and that’s often down to biology rather than lack of discipline. Consequently, a proper medical approach can help.

Hormones and metabolism play a much bigger role in appetite than most people realise. Furthermore, at Southdowns Pharmacy, we look at these factors as part of a wider, personalised plan, rather than a generic template applied to everyone who walks through the door.

This guide covers what actually happens at each stage, from your first consultation with our clinical team through to ongoing support once you’re on a treatment plan. Moreover, the aim is simple: you should know what to expect at every step and never feel like you’re figuring it out alone.

Your Weight Management Journey Starts Here

Many people find that losing weight involves more than simply eating less and exercising more. Factors such as appetite regulation, lifestyle, medical history, and overall health can all influence progress. That’s why our approach begins with a thorough clinical assessment rather than assumptions.

At Southdowns Pharmacy, we take the time to understand your individual circumstances before discussing suitable treatment options. Where prescription treatment is clinically appropriate, you’ll receive ongoing monitoring, personalised advice, and continued support to help you progress with confidence.

Ready to Start Your Journey?

Take the first step towards personalised, clinically supervised weight management. Book a private consultation with our clinical team to discuss your goals and find out whether treatment may be suitable for you.

Book Your Consultation

1. Consult Your Healthcare Provider

Everything starts with a consultation. We’ll look at your overall health, talk through your weight loss goals, and work out whether a prescription treatment option makes sense for you. Nothing gets recommended, however, until we understand your individual situation properly.

2. Understand Your Treatment Options

Prescription treatments for weight management typically work on the hormones tied to appetite and metabolism, which can make it easier to manage hunger and support weight loss. Our clinical team will therefore talk you through exactly how any recommended treatment works and where it fits into your broader plan, so you’re not left with questions.

Obtain a Prescription

3. Obtain a Prescription

Once we’ve talked through your options, one of our independent prescribers carries out a full clinical assessment. If treatment is appropriate for you, they’ll issue a prescription, which you can then fill at Southdowns Pharmacy.

4. Get Your Medication

You will be provided with your medication, the patient information leaflet from the manufacturer, and full instructions from our staff. In addition, your prescriber will give you the appropriate dosage regimen that works for you, not one that follows a generic schedule.

5. Getting Set Up Safely

Getting the administration right matters for both safety and how well the treatment works. Before you start, our team will sit down with you in person and walk you through self-administration, alongside the manufacturer’s official instructions. If something’s unclear once you’re home, call us rather than turning to a random video online. We’d rather explain it properly ourselves.

6. Follow Your Treatment Plan

Adhere to the plan prescribed by your prescriber, as consistency is really key in this process. In addition to following your medication plan, ensure you adhere to everything else recommended by your doctor; this step may be about changing your diet or physical activity.

7. Monitor Your Weight loss Progress

Regular follow-ups matter. Your healthcare provider will check how you’re getting on, adjust your plan if needed, and consequently keep supporting you as things progress.

Monitor Your Weight loss Progress

8. Report Any Side Effects

Notice anything unusual or unwanted while on treatment? Get in touch with Southdowns Pharmacy or your healthcare provider straight away. Furthermore, flagging it early means your treatment can be adjusted quickly, which helps keep things safe.

Professional Tip

Remember, regular communication with your healthcare provider helps ensure your treatment remains safe, appropriate, and effective throughout your weight management plan.

Who May Benefit From a Weight Management Consultation?

Our weight management service is designed for adults who are looking for professional support with managing their weight. A consultation may be appropriate if you:

  • Have found it difficult to lose weight through diet and exercise alone.
  • Are interested in medically supervised weight management.
  • Would like a personalised treatment plan rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
  • Want ongoing support from experienced healthcare professionals.
  • Are looking for a private and confidential consultation.

Every consultation includes an individual clinical assessment. Prescription treatment is only offered where it is clinically appropriate following suitability screening.

Ongoing Support Throughout Your Journey

Beginning treatment is only one part of successful weight management. Regular follow-up appointments allow your prescriber to review your progress, discuss any questions or concerns, and make adjustments to your treatment plan if clinically appropriate.

You’ll also receive guidance on healthy eating, physical activity, and long-term lifestyle habits to help support your progress. Our team remains available throughout your treatment, so you’ll always have access to professional advice whenever you need it.
